A Reasonably Short Story . . . |
The Pecan House was first opened in the small South Texas town of Cuero by J.F. Elder in the 1960's. Lined with beautiful pecan trees, the Guadalupe River winds its way along the eastern edge of the city. Just about every city yard boasts at least one tree. So, Mr. Elder spent the busy pecan season, which runs from November to mid-January, brokering pecans and cracking pecans for the general public. Once the trees finished producing and had been harvested, the doors were closed until the next pecan season. When Wayne Wolf took over the business forty years later, he expanded to include selling fresh cracked pecan halves and pieces in a simple gift box. |
| The Better Part . . . |
Erwin and Annette Rath purchased the Cuero Pecan House in June of 2003 and launched www.thecueropecanhouse.com. Sharing a strong business sense and a talent for gourmet cooking and adventure with Erwin, Annette was beginning to hatch "nutty" ideas. |
| The Even Better Part . . . |
Mary Beth Finney became a partner in October of 2006, and the three began to expand the operation. Mary Beth had her own "nutty" ideas, having a talent for gourmet cooking herself and an adventurous spirit. Candied pecans and specialty gourmet food items were added to the product list. A new gift box, dressier and more efficient for shipping food products was designed. |
| The Best Part . . . |
The gift box idea was a great success. Annette and Mary Beth, by now known as the 2 Nuts, began making the seasoned pecans using their own recipes which gave them quality control of the product. Next, the 2 Nuts expanded the business to include selling products wholesale to retailers throughout the year and not just during the pecan season. |
